A word on place types

While Earth Explorer uses a list of 25 categories to describe various places, the description of some places may not appear to match the category.

Take for instance the Spratly Islands. While this is categorised as a country it will be displayed as a Disputed Territory.

More commonly are places with local names for the various types of administration. In Thailand we have what is categorised as a county yet when viewing a place such as Sai Mai it will be displayed as a Changwat (จังหวัด).
